What is the difference between A/B/Z and U/V/W channels?
A/B/Z channels provide standard incremental position and speed feedback — the same as a regular encoder. U/V/W channels are commutation tracks that indicate the electrical position of a PMSM motor, allowing the controller to know when to commutate (switch) motor phases for smooth rotation. Without U/V/W signals, a PMSM motor cannot operate properly.
Can the UK3508 be used with BLDC motors?
Yes. The UK3508 is specifically designed for PMSM and BLDC motor applications where commutation signals (U/V/W) are required. The 6-channel output (A/B/Z + U/V/W) is compatible with most PMSM and BLDC motor controllers that support encoder-based commutation.
What power supply voltages does UK3508 support?

Why is the output high-level voltage only ≥2.5V (not ≥3.4V)?
The UK3508's output high-level voltage of ≥2.5V (vs ≥3.4V in other series) is by design for 5V systems. This still meets TTL logic threshold (typically ≥2.0V) and is compatible with most motion controllers and PLCs. Always verify your controller's input threshold before use.
How does the tapered shaft eliminate the need for keyways?
The tapered shaft creates a frictional interference fit with the motor shaft — as the encoder is pressed onto the shaft, the taper wedges it in place. This self-centering design provides slip-free torque transmission without machining a keyway, simplifying installation and reducing cost.
